运输机有军用和民用两大类型，主要用于运送货物，但根据需要也可以载运人员。运输机一般不过于强调飞行速度、飞行高度和机载武器等作战能力指标，而比较注重载重量和飞行半径等运输能力指标。目前，中国、美国、日本、欧洲、俄罗斯、英国、加拿大、乌克兰和巴西等均能够研制运输机。
